Monash University copyright and related policies

Copyright Compliance Policy and Procedures for Australian campuses
The policy sets out the terms of compliance for the use of third party copyright materials in an educational environment under commercial or statutory, licenses, permissions and other legal provisions contained in the Australian Copyright Act 1968 (Cth), the Malaysian Copyright Act 1987 and the South African Copyright Act 1978.

The Procedures for Australian Campuses outline the compliance requirements and responsibilities of staff students and authorised users within the Australian jurisdiction, with regard to the use of third party content in teaching and research activities; in particular, the use of licensed electronic resources (ejournals, databases, software). Parallel procedures are to be developed for Monash teaching and learning activities outside the Australian jurisdiction (South Africa, Malaysia).

The Copyright Compliance policy and procedures are also supported by the Database misuse policy (to be published imminently).

IT Security Policy
This policy is about the security, privacy and preservation of intellectual property (including copyright) belonging to the University and to others. It includes information about the right of the University to monitor how IT systems are being used by staff, students and other authorised users.

Plagiarism and Cheating
This policy sets out the procedures and relevant disciplinary measures for handling cheating and plagiarism (using another person’s ideas and or manner of expressing them without giving appropriate acknowledgement).
